Will Google+ compete with Facebook?

A lot of buzz has been created about Google's new venture Google+. Google+ is google's very own attempt to succeed in the world of social networks. Obviously Facebook is now the king of social networks and announced that they had reached 750million users last week. An amazing feat in it's own right.

Will Google+ be able to make some sort of established mark in social networks? It wouldn't be too far fetched an idea to suggest that it might. Facebook may be considered too mainstream for many nowadays and Google have a massive user base, and already have Gmail, GoogleDocs, GoogleSpreadsheets, GoogleAppEngine, (Wave/Buzz) to name a few and have a significant number of dedicated followers.

Then again, Facebook has become the social hub for every type of internet user. Some inept users have forgotten that there is a web outside of facebook and suffer from withdrawal symptoms when absent from it.That feat obviously won't apply to everyone using the social network giant.

What Google+ has done however is create quite a smart and potentially effective business model that may attract  a lot of users from facebook. They've conjured up a cleaner looking facebook with different headers, fonts, and titles for each section allowing facebook users to feel right at home.

Can you spot the similarities?

Google+ has introduced the 'Stream' (live feed) and 'Circles' where users can create circles of friends/family that share certain updates etc etc...much like setting up a group page i'd imagine...

It's invite only at the moment just like gmail started out but you can sign up for updates and progress at https://plus.google.com/up/start/?sw=1&type=st , i also recommend taking the tour that they offer, some features do have a nice snazzy frontend design that may rival's facebook cluttered text filled pages, including a much better photo viewer but time will tell if Google+ can knock Facebook of it's throne. With 750million users, an ever growing presence, new apps and features (Project Spartan, and Zuckerberg announced that they will be "launching something awesome next week") and a movie, it may be a gargantuan task for Google+ to take over but who knows..... when was the last time you logged into bebo?
